When Gilmore Girls ended last season, it was a huge shock to fans of the show. After a bad season and a half (practically whole of season 3 and the beginning of season 4 (remember 'Eight O'Clock at the Oasis', 'Swan song', 'Die, Pig' and 'The Nanny and the Professor' among others?)), the show turned around during the second half of season 4 ('The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais', 'Scene in A Mall', 'The Reigning Lorelai', 'Tick, Tick, Tick, Boom') and ended with some amazing stuff ('Luke Can See Her Face', 'Last Week Fights, This Week Tights' and 'Raincoats and Recipes'). In fact the season finale 'Raincoats and Recipes' delivers what I think is the best episode of any Tv show I've seen this year as Emily and Richard finally announce their separation, Lorelai and Luke finally got together (the couple everyone rooted for since the show begins) and Rory lost her virginity to a married Dean. With such juicy and dramatic storylines (with lots of physical comedy too) going into season 5, anyone would have thought this season is gonna start afresh and do something which will amaze everyone.

10 episodes in and boy was I wrong

Firstly the icky Rory-Dean relationship. Yes, it was good to finally see the 'perfect' Rory did something indecent (Dirty! literally), it seems like nothing changes in her world. Emily and Richard still treat her like an angel but this could be due to that they don't know about this whole affair yet. But how can Lorelai support this affair? If there's a time for Lorelai to pull the mum card, this will be it. But instead she wanted her relationship with Rory to be like before and hence try to accept this whole relationship. And that is just wrong. Isn't she at first a mum, then a friend? Remember when back in season 1 (during the pilot) when Rory doesnt want to go to Chilton and Lorelai pulled the mum card? What happened to that relationship?

And then I can't believe the whole Stars Hollow didn't turn their back on Rory. Or even seem to know about this relationship. Rory- an adulteress got no flack when there was a town meeting to discuss whether they should support Lorelai and Luke's relationship! How improbable is that? Especially when Stars Hollow people should know this. Lindsay's mum did had a bitchfight with Rory in the centre of town square near the gazebo? No one witness this at all?

We'll get back to Luke and Lorelai's relationship later but first another gripe with Rory is how she is written to be as annoying as possible. And no self awareness at all. As well as being a self righteous hypocrite. Her whole conversation with her dad in the Dragonfly Inn could apply to her adultery with Dean. For a Yale student she sure is dumb. For now, I wish she would just get killed and Gilmore Girls be a show between Lorelai and Emily. That would rock so much. Of course the show writers will just make her a martyr if nothing else.

I'll end this for now. This post will be continued some other time. Do't worry, I still have a lot to gripe on Luke and Lorelai's relationship and EMily and Richard's separation.
